The Eight Empty The Eight

Epsil stared out over the vast expanse of the desert. There were three small oases that surrounded Baet, turning the area around the city into more of a plains than a desert. A murder of crows was casting a shadow over the northern side of the desert. The bodies of Inos's soldiers littered the ground. The sand was still stained red, and the scent of rotting flesh could plainly be smelled on the wind. Despite the morbidity, Epsil smiled. Inos now had something to fear. He wasn't the ruler of the night anymore. That was Epsil. He reached over and patted his wolf, Sigma, and hopped on his back. "We gave him a reason to fear us." he said, commenting over the slain legion. "I will be returning to town. We will meet by the north gate at twilight. Do not cause too much trouble, please." he said, turning back to look at the other seven. Fernium wasn't present, although that's not who Epsil was worried about. He looked at Sho, Kate, and Ezra. They had the potential to cause a lot of trouble. Especially Sho. It wouldn't be the first time Epsil would have to bail him out of trouble, but this time it was serious. They weren't just stopping in a village, then moving on. They were staying and fighting. He returned his gaze to Sho, stared at him for a moment, then turned back around, whistling sharply and taking off on Sigma. He had a lot of preparing to do for the next assault.

Fernium rode his horse through the desert, pursuing a second horse and it's rider, who were trying to quickly lose him, without much luck. Seeing his chance, Fernium readied his bow, notching an arrow, and pulling the string in one quick movement, before releasing.

The arrow struck the rider's side, a loud yell of pain ringing out, as he fell from his horse, who continued to run without it's rider. Fernium slowed his horse to a stop next to the injured man, notching another arrow.

The man's eyes widened in fear as he looked up at the nomad, before opening his mouth. "N-n-now h-old on, l-let's be r-reasonable he-" He began, only to be stopped by the arrow, that had penetraited his head, right between the eyes. Fernium hopped off his horse, quickly reclaiming his bag, that had been stolen that morning, before getting right back on, and riding off back in the direction he came from.

This detour was over, it was now time to meet up with the rest of the Eight.

Sho caught Epsil's stare but merely smirked. His tightened slightly on the bottle of alcohol he had been drinking from but he shrugged it off. With nothing more than a glance at the slain legion he turned away and let his mind search out his element.

It gathered around him and threw him through the air in the direction of the city. "Later~" his voice echoed across the plains as he flew towards the city.

Kate gave Epsil a dirty look as he glanced at her. His comment about not causing trouble was obviously directed at her, and it irritated her. She took out her spear, and stabbed it dead on into one of the bodies, and ran an electric current through it before she would zap Sigma and make Epsil fall off, cooking the flesh. She grinned at Sho. "I made dinner. Who's up for cannibalism?" she laughed.

With a command for the wind to let him drop lightly, Sho touched down outside one of the many taverns in the city and made his way in without a second thought.

He grinned as he took in the drunks and the women and quickly took an unattended drink from a nearby table and picked a spot near the bar.

The landscape was littered with bodies. Seven members of the Eight were present - everwatching the growing decay of the bodies staining the desert. The sands were a deep crimson, and rightfully so. The soldiers of Inos had made another attempt on Baet, and it was certainly not something taken lightly by Leena. She retrieved her shrikes from their resting place in the flesh of several soldiers, and while on one knee, silently wiped her flail on the festering flesh of the dead soldiers. These dead deserve no respect.

Standing again, she looked back at the members of the Eight present. Leena was, as usual, positioned in such a way that the light radiated from her shoulder-length blonde curls. It almost seemed to capture the rays of the sun. Her violet eyes scanned the Eight, almost inquisitively wondering what they were going to do, when she saw Sho take off in a rush. Fernium was not present whatsoever, and Leena immediately assumed that he would be off to his own devices.

A rather graphic discussion about the 'meal' which Kate had cooked ensued, to which Leena chuckled... Very Kate. she thought to herself, before turning away from Kate and Ezra. Mira and Proph had remained fairly quiet, however, so she decided it best to speak with them. The larger man loomed powerfully over top of the smaller, more lithe Mira, though Leena was unfazed. "Guess we've got some time to kill, no?" She smiled, sweetly, though the motive behind her simple question was largely clouded in her expression. "Any plans, perhaps?"

Rotting flesh of the deceased. Nothing but foolish hunks of meat with no purpose but evil. Let their blood soak the dunes that so greedily drink the crimson liquid. Let the corpses rot under the beating sun. Let the wilds consume their remains. Let more of them come only to meet the same end. Let the endless bloodbath resume.

Miranda contents herself by positioning low to the ground in a pounce-like stand, licking the blood from her clawed gauntlets. One spoke of rendezvous, others spoke of consumption. Mira had no care for these things, just the cause she followed and the promise of more blood. She would have been satisfied with remaining as such for the remainder of this pause in confrontation, but she would not have such as Leena approaches.

"Yes, time to kill." She wipes her salivated gauntlets on the clothes of a nearby corpse. "My plan is the same as always. Hunt their master, lash out at the core." She gives the younger girl a feral smile.

The sandstorm had seemed to swirl around Proph before dispersing. Pathetic, the man thought, he hadn't even drawn his blade except for once in that battle, and that was only because he wanted to see how sturdy their opponent's armour was. Not sturdy enough, it seemed. The desert was his land, it responded to his whims, and he had wanted that force dead. The earth was his ally, he reminded himself, never underestimate the forces they were working with.

Off went the kid, off to indulge in whatever debauchery he felt like. More free than the winds he controlled, that boy. Proph was never mad keen on discipline, anyway. There went their illustrious leader, off to plan their attacks. Proph was never mad keen on being told what to do, either. The pyrokinetic was off somewhere, Proph never paid him too much attention. Four girls in front of him, all seemed to relish in their power and the thrill of using them. Proph had been young once, too.

"No plans," he said in his quiet voice, his face still vaguely amused and unreadable. "I'll probably go into town and try not to get too drunk for our next meeting with the glorious leader."

It was a short ride back to Baet, minus the small interruption of Sigma getting shocked, standing in place and growling at the nonexistent enemy. Epsil would talk to Kate about her temper. It'd be one thing if she shocked him personally, but his pet and steed? Unacceptable.

Epsil strode in to the small, shady-looking shack. There was a small forge and an anvil in the center, with blacksmithing tools lining the walls. A robed man sat in the corner, a book in one hand, and a long, glowing quill in the other. He was speaking in a language Epsil did not know, but was familiar with. He drew the quill across a dagger, drawing runes down the blade. The runes glowed brilliantly, as if made of fire, and dulled just as quick, becoming a light cyan, then fading altogether.

"Volo habeo meus vesica subpono iterum." he said. The blacksmith looked up. "Quod vos reputo ego mos operor officium vobis?" (You think I will do the job?)
Epsil nodded. "I know you will, for I have already brought the materials." he said, unclipping a longsword from his belt, and tossing it to the blacksmith. He unsheathed it partially, and examined the blade, then called the runist over. The two men examined it for a few minutes.
"Deus..." the blacksmith said under his breath. He stood up. "I will do it." he said. Epsil smiled. "Let us discuss it..." he said.

Several hours later, Epsil exited the shack. He didn't have his blade on him, though the blacksmith lent him a khopesh, which was wrapped in linen and slung over his shoulder. There were still a few hours left until twilight, so the man returned to Sigma, who was laying against the wall, in the shade. Epsil curled up next to his wolf, laying in wait. He would retrieve his sword in two days' time. He knew Inos would assault between now and then, and convinced the old blacksmith to let him borrow a sword, hence the khopesh.

Epsil sighed. He hoped Sho wasn't getting in too much trouble. Knowing him, he was in a bar picking a fight with someone over a woman, whom he'd bed and leave. Epsil set his head in his hands and began to doze off...

Epsil's head jerked upright. He shook his head and yawned, trying to wake up a little more. He got to his feet. Sigma's head perked up, and he made a low growl in the back of his throat. "Sh." Epsil said, scratching the wolf's ears. He could hear hoofbeats.

Sure enough, a few seconds later, Fernium rode into town. Epsil raised on hand in a halfhearted wave, and strode over to him. "Evening." he said calmly.

Sho ducked a punch from a nearby drunk and stuck out with a fist of his own, knocking the man towards a table. He looked at the man's wife and gave her a wink.

This only enraged the drunk more and he threw himself at Sho, only to find himself flat on his back with a shuriken edge digging into the soft skin of his throat.

"Calm your fucking beans." Sho said dangerously. "It's not my fault that your missus ain't satisfied with you mate. She kissed me."

With that the young man got up and headed for the door, a bottle of beer in his hand.

Kate sighed when no one wanted her food. "I'm going to go look for Sho then. I don't trust him alone in a bar. Most likely he's being an idiot and getting himself punched in the face." she laughed, and got on her gold horse and started at a canter into town to find a bar where she could most likely find Sho.

An angry looking man came out of one of the bars, and Kate hopped down from her horse to investigate. It was Sho. "What the hell are you doing? Who did you piss off?" she said irritably as she scrutinized his appearance. "You didn't kill anyone in there, did you? Start a bar fight?"

Sho raised an eyebrow before shrugging at Kate. "Didn't know she was married... it wasn't my fault." He frowned at the still open door to the bar and waved his hand at it.

The wind picked up and slammed it powerfully. Almost ripping it from its hinges.

"I'm okay, but Sho's making friends." Kate laughed. "Kissed a married woman, he did. And almost got himself punched. Now I want a drink." Kate slipped inside to find herself a bottle of rum. She went inside and slipped behind the bar to take one, then slipped back out before a hand went on her shoulder. Instinctively, she shocked the hand with her powers, and the hand was removed as she turned around. "Do you need something?" she said to the man who was rubbing his hand.

The man nodded. "You got to pay for that."

Kate kissed his cheek. "Consider it paid." she said before walking out and taking a long sip of it.

Leena shrugged at Mira's bloodlust. Weirder things can happen in these... troubled times. she thought to herself. "Don't you think it would be better to plan, first? After all, that'd be what Epsil would want from us." Badgering Mira no more, she turned her attention back to the looming figure that was Proph. He seemed rather... distant to the small displays in front of him. He spoke of returning to town and getting a drink. His cynicism, however, was evident. "Heh heh heh... I like the way you think, old man." Leena suppressed a girlish giggle, though it was let out in the form of an eerie laugh instead. "S'pose I’ll join you, if you don't mind the company." She winked at him, continuing on, "After all, I really don't have much option to drink out here. She's hogging all the blood."

Starting off in the direction of Baet, Leena looked over her shoulder at her conversational partners. "Let's get going, then. The rest of them will polish off all the drinks without us if we’re not quick." And without further ceremony, Leena phased out of view, walking idly in the glare of the sun. Her power of illusion made things very nice when she wanted peace and quiet for herself. Stopping a moment in the midst of the desert, she sighed. It was nicer out in the wild, but there was little in the way of supply, and the constant threat of mercenary attacks was... irritating, to say the least.

Continuing on, she found herself walking at a brisk pace toward the destination of the nearby town. It didn't take all that long to reach; Baet was fairly hard to miss, and the Eight had not stopped that far from the city proper to eliminate its impending menace. Leena was contented that the place was safe, and she wandered idly with no real direction for a couple of minutes. "Where oh where could you be, dear friends..." She turned, and saw Fernium passing through a door that looked more than a little worse for wear. Perfect.

Leena entered herself, dispelling her illusionary cloak just in the nick of time. It seemed that Kate had beaten her back, as she passed the other girl who seemed a little more than too content with herself. "What did you do this time, Kate..." she muttered aloud. Pulling out a few coins, she purchased her own drink, before sliding up next to Fernium. "I'll take whatever he's got," she informed the bartender. Turning to the man she decided would be fun to speak with, she inquired, "Catch me up, flamey. What'd I miss?"

When Ezra got back to town, she silently made her way to the inn she was staying at, checking to make sure no one was following her. She headed to her room and pulled off her scarf, revealing small bruises on her neck. She looked around for a change of clothes, before seeing the T-shirt and sweats folded neatly on her bed. Ezra sighed.

Epsil looked to the sky. The sun was starting it's sink. In another hour or two, it would be twilight, and time to start their vigil. He mounted Sigma, and set out to the previous night's battlefield.
Long shadows fell across the desert sands, and Epsil raised his hand, the shadows twisting into grotesque hands and claws, pulling corpses into piles. When he was done, Epsil was short on breath, and a light sweat dotted his brow. It was a lot of work to pull tons upon tons of bodies into piles. He bent over, his hands on his knees, and breathed deeply for a few seconds before straightening up and wiping the sweat from his brow. Composure regained, he noticed one of his companions still out, fiddling with corpses.
"Miranda? You are still out here?" he asked, approaching the woman. "Did you not wish to rest up before tonight?"

Mira was left alone. Alone with the rotting corpses of the fallen. She had no real desire to return to town, she found herself at home in the wilds. She walked along the meadow of dead in a slightly hunched walk, glancing at the faces and recording them in her mind. "Nothing but the resting dead of the sleepless living." The sun made its progress regardless of Mira's timeless feel. The beating of the golden sphere held little bearing against her darker skin, but the heat alone finally demanding that she drink. With no ideal consumption water immediately nearby, she contented herself with a long drought from her massive boomerang which stored several gallons of the substance, using her ability to draw the liquid out.

Time continued to slip away as she meandered about the open-air graveyard. "Miranda? You are still out here? Did you not wish to rest up before tonight?"

Epsil interrupted her wandering thoughts, but she didn't overly mind."Your pardon, I didn't mean to concern you. I'll head in now."
