So, I wanted to join an rp but....

I really have no idea where to start XD

Most rps seem to have already started. o.O
Do they stay open for people to join into, or is it unwise to try and join one? And is there a reason there are no tree roleplays? What exactly are the rules for it? o.o

Since I'm, like, the next newb after you, I'm probably not the best person to answer your questions. But:

1. You can join any RP you want, I think, but I strongly advise you to choose one that's near its beginning unless you want major confusion. If you really wanted to, you could come up with an RP of your own and post the idea in the Interest thread to see who else would join; after garnering enough attention, you'd then post an OOC thread, and then make the actual RP. That's just what I've observed so far.

2. Tree roleplays are, like, the elite of roleplays. Here, the RPs are sorted into three categories: Budding, Blossoming, and Tree. Basically, there really isn't any criteria for Budding. It's just basic RPing. In Blossoming, you're expected to pay attention to grammar/spelling/etc. and also post more detailed posts; say, a paragraph per post. In Tree, the rules are even stricter and the posts are even more detailed.

No, it's not unwise to try and join one. There are a few that have a select number of slots available, so you can't join those, but RPs like Runic (I think), Post-Acer, and SHOT are open to new members. Especially Post-Acer. /plugged

This is a pretty new format, and I think no one's just gotten around to actually getting a tree RP up and running. The rules for trees are two well-written paragraphs.

I tried making a tree RP but nobody seemed interested ;-; I think it's still in the Interest checks.
But yeah, I'd enjoy watching you draw. I can't draw very well at all so I compensate by watching people -isuntalented-

You can always join RPs that are up and running, just ask around for, like, a basic summary. You can also browse through the Interest Checks section to find some RPs that haven't started or need some love. <3

And no, it's not pointless. People who ask questions are awesome.

Damn, you guys are pretty on top of this. The only thing I have to say is that Trees aren't the elite, it's only elite if folks act like douchebags and say "OH I POST IN TREE I'M A BETTER RP'ER THAN YOU ARE LOLOLOL" That sort of behavior doesn't fly with me, but Tree RPs only get more detail and more to work with for longer posts.
