The Overlord's Court

"Likewise, Milady," Magnus replied, inclining his head again. He ate what he wanted, before he stood up to go to the library.

"Oh boy..." Isaiah said, before pulling from memory and old healing spell he had learned when he was servingunder the Field Marshal. Healing magic was pretty basic, and almost anyone could learn it, so it wasn't long till he completed the spell.

Isaiah wasn't the first thing Kyruna saw when she had snapped out of it. "Oh...the towers fell." she stated like it was a common occurance.

"What?" Isaiah asked, currently wondering if the spell had failed somehow.

"The towers of books I was reading. They fell over...Ah! Milord!" Kyruna tried to hop up to curtsey again.

"Ah..." Isaiah said, understanding now. "I'm glad you're alright, Kyruna."

One of the nobles stopped Magnus as he left the hall. He wasn't a major figure, but he seemed to have an inflated opinion of himself and a low opinion of the military.

"Why didn't I see you at prayers, General?" he asked in a nasal voice.

"Because I wasn't there. It's Field Marshal. Generals are people who run parts of the army I am in charge of," Magnus replied, refraining from violence. The man said something about atheists in charge being the reason the gods hadn't granted them victory yet, but he ignored him and continued.

He soon entered the library silently, surveying the scene before him.

"Ah, Field Marshal." Isaiah said, saluting when he saw the man, a habit that he couldn't seem to stp imself from doing. "How has your morning been?"

"Ah! Field Marshal Magnus!" Kyruna suddenly said as she curtseyed to him as well.

"Stand easy, Milord," Magnus chuckled wryly. "For the most part it has been, I talked with your sister briefly over breakfast a while ago, and conversed with my guard, Sir Ariki. I am not long up."

"Ms. Ariki," Magnus inclined his head politely. "Hard at studying, I see."

"I still prefer, Sir Zerez, Sir." Zerez commented from behind the man.

Kyruna nodded and then rubbed the back of her head.

Isaiah nodded to the Field Marshal. "I'm glad to hear that, sir, I realise how uncomfortable you must feel, being stuck here, in the court."

"Good morning, Sir Zerez." Isaiah said when he saw the knight. "I trust everything is well?"

"Usually it's a surname after a title, but I would have to notice the similarities between you and your sister, Sir Zerez," Magnus replied, faintly amused. "Usually it's Field Marshal Russell as opposed to Magnus, but either is fine."

"There are those with much worse complaints than mine," Magnus replied respectfully to his Overlord.

"A simple preference," Zerez said to the Field Marshal. "A good day to you, Milord." Zerez bowed to him. "All is well."

"I apolligize, Field Marshal Russell." Kyruna bowed her head. A little embarrased by the mistake.

"As I said, either is fine in here. In court, it's slightly different, but there's no need to get worked up over a simple mistake," Magnus told her kindly.

The Overlord nodded at what the Knight said.. "Good to hear." He said, before turning to the Field Marshal.

"So Field Marshal, what brings you here, during this time of day?" He asked his former superior.

"I am merely wondering if you had anything you require of me. Idleness does not become me, I'm afraid," the head of the army replied respectfully.

"Still, I should have remembered, Sir..." Kyruna admitted, head still down. "By Your Majesty's leave..." she curtseyed to the Overlord again, and left the library. To give them some privacy.

The Overlord shook his head. "Sadly no, but I am quite anxious to get word from the front soon, the report is two days over-due..."
"Ah, wait Lady Kyruna, there is no reason to leave, you can continue your buisness here." He said, when he noticed the woman was leaving.

But Kyruna had already gone out the door.

"A shame," Magnus replied, paranoia making him suspect the worst. Why was the report late? Was the messenger still living? "I can't help but fear court life and old age is making me soft."

Isaiah ndded. "Indeed..." He said, a bit anxious. "Well, there have been a few storms lately, so let's hope that's the reason the report hasn't shown up yet."

"Hope for the best, assume the worst," Magnus reminded him, a lesson he had drilled into the young Overlord. The Field Marshall had not been an easy taskmaster. Magnus couldn't afford to let up on Isaiah back then. When under pressure as Overlord, the opposition wouldn't be so kind as to let up on him.

"Indeed..." Isaiah said. "...Let's keep our eyes peeled, Field Marshal, due you mind if I send some of your men out to investigate?"

"I will do it," Magnus promised them. "I need to remind them I'm still alive, while all those young generals vye for supremacy. Then I might go train."
