Runic

Sam struggled to move forward, and barely made it three steps before she fell over. "Hey! Wait! Don't go!"

Kaizo sighed and banged his bandaged fist against the wall. What appeared to be white bandages popped out of the ground near Sam, helping her up and supporting her. "...Don't tell anyone about what happened, got it?"

The whole thing with the bandages confused her, but she was grateful for the support. "Only if you tell me everything about what happened." She retorted.

"Look, I don't have time for this," Kaizo said, irritated. "Just go home and act as if nothing happened. I'll even help you back if you need it."

"I can't do that. It happened, and I wnt to know why." Sam snapped, irritated with this boy already.

"Stubborn bitch," Kaizo muttered. The bandages began to tighten up around Sam, before disintegrating. The teen sighed and turned to face the girl, leaning back against the wall. "...Ask me anything. I won't lie, but you have to promise not to tell anyone. I don't want to hurt you." He looked up at the sky and frowned. "...Name's Kaizo, by the way."

"I'm Sam." She replied. "What was that thing that I threw my shoe at?" She asked. It was the first question that came to mind, and it was rather uncreative, but it was a question.

"A Runic," Kaizo simply said.

"Why was it after you?" She asked. While it seemed that the more obvious question was what it was, she figured that could be explained while she's asking more questions.

Kaizo shrugged. "A Runic like that...can't think properly," he said. "They just go after the nearest living thing and think that it's food."

"And what are normal Runics like?"

Kaizo frowned, and the bandages on his arm disappeared and were replaced by gray blue symbols, similar to the Runic's.

"You're a Runic." Sam observed, shocked. "What are they, exactly?"

"It's really hard to explain," Kaizo muttered. "It's like...a curse, I guess."

"How did you become one?"

"I...I was born with it," Kaizo said.

"Are you not human?"

"I-I am!" Kaizo interjected, the bandages reappearing on his arm. "Just...not completely."

"And what were those markings?" She asked, gesturing to the bandages.

"...My Runes," Kaizo simply said.

"What do they do?"

"It's different in every person," Kaizo said. "My Runes are shapeshifters, but I'm not."

"Uh.... what?" Sam asked, confused.

"Um..." The bandages on Kaizo's arm morphed into armor, then a cast, and then morphed back into regular bandages. "...Yeah."

"Ohh... but what's the use of only having one arm covered?"
