SBURB: Restart

Nell looked at Joey's room, frowning as he left, before starting to move things to the hallway outside it. "Oh, shit!" she exclaimed as she accidentally broke the walls forming his door, trying to get the bed out. "...Maybe he won't notice..." she muttered to herself, before looking at the different instruments that she had at her disposal. Cruxtruder? Alchemiter? Totem Lathe? What were these things?

Figuring that Joey would find out one way or another, she started placing them all around his now empty room.

IO: i think youre supposed to use these things
IO: ill go talk to kath

IO: im not sure why but joey told me to talk to you
IO: that game is weird
IO: like sims except in reall life!!!!

ZD: Sims in real life?
ZD: What, are you sticking Joey in bed with his dad and making them have sex?
ZD: Wait, what did I just say?
ZD: That is an extremely disturbing image.

Nell stared at Kath's reply for a good while, not exactly sure how to respond. Why...why would she ever do that?

IO: uhhhh noooo
IO: like i think i just broke his wall when i tried to fit his bed through the door
IO: hes on my computer screen!!!!!1

ZD: You... broke his wall.
ZD: What are you, Hulk?
ZD: Wait, how did you get him on your screen?

This game was getting stranger and stranger. Kathryn was glad she got ahold of the game before her brother.

James returned upstairs ten minutes later, to find all his furniture in the hallway, and a bunch of machines in his room.

DH: Holy shit!
DH: Nell, this is amazing!
DH: I'm going to try and figure out what these do, so we have a better idea of what we are spose to do.
DH: Oh yeah, I heard the game is spose to be played in a chain of servers, and clients.
DH: Lad the client, and you can hook up with Kath, as your server.

IO: okay i guess ill go install the client then
IO: tell me when you get the server loadd

Now Joey was pestering her, too! Geez, she could barely type as it was, how was she supposed to keep up with two conversations? She attempted one handed typing as she put the client disc into her computer, but it didn't really work out.

IO: wouyrkijng in ittg
IO: yeah sorry im downloading the client now
IO: so uhh let me know if you find anything interesting i dont think i can really do much on this end
IO: i cant move anything eles either
IO: it keeps saying i dont have enough build grist whatever that is
IO: and apparently i have zero fruit gushers
IO: which sucks
IO: i like gushers

Kathryn loaded in the server disc and waited for it to load up patiently.

ZD: Installing now.
ZD: How destroyed is Joey's house?

Joey nodded, before getting up, and moving towards the machines. He approached the cruxtruder, and tried to turn the wheel, and the top of the pipe thing, seemed to move, but he couldn't get it off.

DH: Hey, can you try dropping something on the top of the maching I was just messing with, I'm trying to open it.

IO: its not tooooo destroyed
IO: just that one wall
IO: im being careful

Nell switched back over to her conversation with Joey, wishing they wouldn't both pester her at the same time. The client was almost done downloading, at least...

IO: i can try

She grabbed the nightstand from Joey's hallway, bringing it into the room a bit haphazardly, before dropping it on the wheel-y machine thing.

The top bursted open, and out popped a flashing orange orb. "Whoa..." Joey said, before noticing the timer that popped up on the machine.

Confused, Joey decided to just screw it, and look up a walkthrough online. A minute later, he discovered that they were serverely lacking, but it looked like he was going to need to do something called prototyping...then it mentions something about a meteor, and it got more frantic, before suddenly cutting off.

A little put off by this, Joey went downstairs, the orb following him for some reason, trying to find something to proto-type the orb with. He didn't want to bother Nell, since she sounded busy, and decided to use one of his dad's soldier figurines. He might get scolded later, but eh...

Tik. Tik tik tik tiktiktik. The rapid 'tik's of Aocer clicking his mouse and banging away at laptop keyboard were the only sounds that could be heard in the room. Safe in his room, and protected from his uncle's neverending stream of boring jabber, Aocer could use his full focus to download the server and client setups from the main site. He carefully navigated the SBURB website and entered the member-exclusive area with a key code given to him by one of his 'frequent associates' who already had the game. He hit download and snapped his fingers triumphantly when a pop-up screen told him that the SBURB Server download would take 04:01:03 minutes. Irritatedly, he got up and pulled a notebook out of his backpack, sat on his bed in front of his laptop and snapped, "Wardrobifier: LIGHT GREY!" Instantly, his shirt changed to a light ash grey. He started making squiggly lines in his notebook and started writing sheet music to pass time. Four minutes later, a *BEEP* noise from his laptop notified him that the download was done. He then hopped onto Pesterchum and noticed that the firend who gave him the code was online.

[09:58:58] ER: SERIOUSLY. What are you doing.
[09:59:18] ER: I'm waiting.
[09:59:30] ER: Hell, woman, PESTER ME WHEN YOU'RE DONE WITH WHATEVER MOMENTOUS WORK YOU'RE DOING.

Nell stared at her computer screen, watching as the little orange glow-y ball appeared. What was Joey doing now? He didn't seem to want to include her in anything.

IO: dude what is that is it like a ghost or something
IO: try to talk to it maybe itll tell us what the timer is for
IO: maybe the wheely machine is making a cake

Turning her attention back to Kath and the strange lack of odd machinery that was appearing in her room, she started trying to get her attention as well.

IO: kaaaath
IO: kaaaaaaaaaaaaath
IO: im gnna start clearing out my room for the weird machines

Joey pulled out his phone, logging onto Pesterchum using an app, to check in with Nell, only to see her already typed messages.

DH: The thing is completely impossible to understand.
DH: Hold on, I'm going to prototype it, and see if that helps.

He through the figurine into the sprite, only for a blinding burst of light to flash out from it. When the light cleared, there standing before him, was the sprite, whose upper body was that of a uniformed soldier, wielding a machine gun. Joey didn't know if this was good or bad, but then the sprite began to speak.

Soldiersprite: Get to the window, cadet!

Joey wasted no time, acting on instinct, having received orders like that from his dad, in the same kind of tone. Sort of like a drill sergeant. Joey got to the window, where he noticed something in the sky. Was that...?

Soldiersprite: Looks like you only have ten minutes left, cadet, better hustle up.

IO: pardon my french but wiat the fuck are uou doing??????
IO: prototype??

Nell felt about ready to slam her face into a wall. Jesus christ, why didn't Joey ever make any sense? Prototyping? And then he just jumped to the window! Honestly, what was going on?

zanyDuchess began pestering euclideanRhapsody

ZD: Dude, what do you want?
ZD: I'll put my client CD in if you be my server.

She turned her attention to the server that was now installed on her laptop, and suddenly she had a view into Nell's room.

ZD: Whoa, sweet room.
ZD: What do I put in first?

There were so many weird machines that she had no idea what it meant.

ZD: Yeesh, don't flip your shit.
ZD: I'll make it work.

Kathryn looked at the options of items, and popped one, the Alchemiter, in Nell's kitchen. It was where the room was. She then took the Totem Lathe and stuck it in her room next to the glass case. The Cruxtruder was set in the middle of her living room.

ZD: Take a look.
ZD: One is in your kitchen.
ZD: Another in your living room.
ZD: Have fun.

IO: this is going to be inconvenient
IO: all this running all over my house
IO: alright wheres the wheely one
IO: joey says were supposed to hit it with somethin gheavy

Nell glanced around, sighing. Geez, couldn't Kath see that her house was pretty big. Oh well, she'd get a decent work out running between all these machines.

IO: you missed some lyrics in there
IO: but i suppose it couldnt hurt to buff up my skinny girlly legs abyway
IO: imma run to the living room
IO: in the meantime
IO: create an awesome montage of me running around and hit the wheely thing with something heavey

Nell sighed, grabbing her laptop and start down the long trek of staircases and hallways towards her living room. Damn Kath.

DH: It's something I read about in these crappy wlakthroughs.
DH: Seriously, these things are crap!

Joey typed as he starred at the object in the sky, that seemed to be getting bigger.

DH: ...Nell, what I'm about to say is not a joke, I reapeat, NOT A JOKE!
DH: ...I think the timer is counting down to when the meteor that I'm starring at, will eventually hit my house.


The calmness in his messages were betrayed by the fact Nell could actually see him freaking out on screen.

DH: The sprite said something about a card, do you know what he's talking about?!

Nell finally made it down to her living room, collapsing on her couch while she waited for Kath to work her magic. She opened her laptop, only to find a message from Joey. As she read over his pestering, she gasped, staring at the screen for a few seconds before promptly spazzing out, though in a much different way than Joey was.

IO: a meteor?!!
IO: that's so cooooool!!!!!!!!
IO: luckyluckyluckylucky
IO: i would kill to get my hands on a beautiful piece of space rock like that!!!!!
IO: i dunno about cards though
IO: maybe captchalouge cards? or maybe the birthday card i sent you
IO: who cares???? METEORRRRR

Joey nearly facepalmed, how could she not notice the most important detail about that. He would normally wait until she noticed the problem herself, but he did not have the time.

DH: Yes, a meteor.
DH: As in, HUGE SPACE ROCK THAT'S ABOUT TO INCINERATE ME AND MY HOUSE ON IMPACT!
DH: Are you sure you didn't deploy a card?

Soldiersprite: Be ready to die, cadet.

Great, now the sprite thing was saying he was basically screwed.
