Jizara glanced over that the sound of a new voice to see... a rather young girl. Must be who they were looking for, She thought. She grinned a little; the girl's voice reminded Jizara of her own sister's. The kitsune approached the girl- Naina, apparently- with a cautious, split-second glance at Alice, as if expecting the girl to object. Jizara then looked back to the young girl and offered her hand. "Jizara Kelat. I helped your friends in their previous struggle against the plant-creatures of this forest. And I've offered my help further, so that this group may have a better chance at getting through alive." Another sidelong look at Alice. A muttered, "Despite the lack of gratitude somebody shows."

"It's nice to meet you, Jizara," Naina said with a smile, shaking hands with the Kitsune, then curtsying, "and don't worry about Alice too much; she'll get used to you. Maybe." With a small chuckle, she looked towards everyone else. "So you guys fought more monsters while I was gone?" she asked, beginning to tear up a little. "At least there's another person though, right?"

That voice. So familiar... its owner was the very girl that she was just about to give up hope on. Alice yanked her arm, and relief washed over Lissa; the intense weight the burden of losing Naina for the first time had been lifted. The jerk of the intangible chains was not so prevalent in her being. She sighed. So you've come back... Thank goodness... Turning finally to meet the girl, Lissa smiled. "Welcome back, Naina. We'll do our best not to leave you behind again; just don't go running off, okay?"

She could have sworn she caught Jizara smiling before the fox-tailed girl returned to her normal, stern self. Naina elegantly curtsied in front of her, mentioning Alice by name. Jizara seems to take this whole thing so personally... Is there something she really isn't telling us...? A shadow of doubt momentarily crossed Lissa's eyes, but she thought again, mentally fighting herself, No, no. She came to help. We all just need to trust each other a little more... at least until these shackles release us.

Jet, on the other hand, looked so intently at poor Naina. "Jet, you look as though you're about to swoon," Lissa chuckled, the poor boy seemed so incredibly concerned... perhaps there was a stronger emotional connection there than she thought. "Easy on the girl, she's only just come back. Your concern is..." she thought for a moment for the right word, before mischievously deciding, "cute." Her mood was a far cry from what it was just seconds before. Naina's return was something to celebrate, though the tug of the chain made her uneasy in the back of her mind... She hoped that the others would not be able to read it. She could not afford to lose her composure again.

"What?" Jet asked, confused by Lissa's strange comment, he then frowned as he stared into her eyes, seeing a feel of unease coming from them. He decided he would talk to her later about it.

Naina blushed as Lissa spoke. In a way, she hoped that what Lissa mentioned casually wasn't true, but it would be very cute and romantic if it was. The knight falling for the girl during their adventures... Jet's obliviousness, however, ruined Naina's imagination completely. Her face returned to its natural hue as she looked towards the Spirit Invoker. Walking up to her, Naina got close enough to whisper to Lissa. "I don't that's gonna happen," she said softly, with a smile. Hopefully, only Lissa would have heard that. Well, as long as Jet didn't...

"I suppose we should go then," Naina said, her smile still on her face. "It wouldn't do to be here for a long time. Especially not with that chain... She remarked, her smile ever so slightly falling, though it was hardly noticeable.

Jizara chuckled at the exchange. She was already starting to like the group... for the most part. She would have to wait and see with Alice. She could tolerate the girl as long as she set aside her mistrust for a while, but... "As amusing as it would be for Jet and Naina to inadvertently fall in love in the middle of a forest, the girl's right. We can't stay here for long. Unless you want more plants to try to eat you or something." She cast her azure eyes around, as if looking for more monsters even now creeping up on the group, but her eyes went to tracking the movements of the other four. Alice, Jet, Naina, Lissa... What a rag-tag group, She thought in general amusement. Quite surprised they've made it this far. She caught an uneasy light in Lissa's eyes, and didn't blame her for it. "So, are we going to get moving or have you four rooted yourselves like the plants?" She asked with a hint of a grin.

Alice nodded slightly in agreement. The less time she spent in the forest, the less time she had to stick around these evil doers and taint herself. She liked Lissa and Naina, but she'd much rather continue on her own journey, alone.

And it was time to depart. Everlasting, the chains pulled the group towards an undefined location in their otherworldly lock, never completely disappearing. Segments of the scarlet fate leading them further beyond the Seneste Forest appeared periodically, as if directing the five on their uncertain journey through the progressively denser, dimmer wilderness. The murmur of the nearby stream had long since faded, muffled by the distant sounds of roaming, yet unseen beasts and other monsters which inhabited the area. Lienaell, was, in fact, a continent mostly untamed by the hand of civilization, as the creatures dwelling there were dangerous, especially in their natural habitat. The farther they reached, the more eerily silent the atmosphere got--a definite thin layer of tension weaving among... something, at the verge of breaking--and the more they questioned whether this was an illusion, or fabric of an even greater dream. Seneste Forest seemed to drag on impossibly farther than they could have ever imagined. The five stopped.

Akin to a mantle or invisible limit placed in their way, it appeared as if the very empty space beyond their position sizzled with subtle ripples of distortion like the undulations of disturbed water, a phantom boundary describing an unreal separation between Seneste Forest and... whatever which laid beyond. Hesitant, the party did not move until for one last time, the mysterious shackles binding them towards this destination appeared, crossing the illusionary area. They disappeared beyond the anomaly, extending to the other end they had not yet reached... And they had no alternative other than follow its lead. Finally, like the last piece of a jigsaw puzzle clicking together as the clear result, they arrived. They knew that had, in fact. Crumbled structures of eroded stone rose in their ancestral splendor, majorly covered with the overgrown vegetation, seeping with a subtly teal essence which immediately faded into the atmosphere. Mana. Pillars sunken in the earth from leaning angles displayed ornate bass-relief carvings, also delineating a vaguely discernible road buried in the soil and wild grass, leading to high building--no, an altar with a value of importance they did not immediately understand. Seneste Forest had disappeared.

Blanketing the sky, a layer of lazily drifting clouds blocked most of the morning sunlight, although greatly distanced gaps allowed for the sun above them to cast a few uniform rays below--it seemed the weather had not changed during the entire ordeal, and furthermore, it was still morning. Beyond the architectural graveyard, a myriad of treetops with their twisting branches and verdant leaves could be seen in the distance. They were on a cliff of some sort, and a streaks of aimless doubts and unanswered questions crossed most, if not everybody of the five. Before they could even reassemble, there was a blur of motion, followed with the familiar gleam of metal travelling at immense speeds, straight towards them. The Spirit Invoker leapt away just in time, as there was a clanking crack of metal against stone, a figure appearing just a meter away from where Lissa had been seconds ago.

"Nhg-ah!" he grunted--the voice belonged to a male--as he quickly lifted the strange scythe firmly stuck on the ground, a failed attempt at a strike that would have probably been fatal. There was a mechanical click and swift scratching of metal as he pulled back nigh-instantly and finally stopping a respectable distance away from the obviously-alerted party. Appearing to be merely thirteen, the boy was garbed in a rather unorthodox manner; a tight suit patterned with blue and teal stripes behind a widely segmented robe of somber grey shades, intricately detailed into fine ending points and shapes which did not even touch the ground. He was hovering in place, his form completely unmoving with his eccentric scythe poised threateningly--a mesh of twisting forms for the handle with contrasting black and white for the blade which closely resembled his clothing style. Ebony, metallic wings bearing acute, pointed shapes sprouted from his back, their asymmetry and stillness fascinating, yet completely illogical. Short silvery hair moved slightly with the silent wind, narrowed blue eyes viciously scanning the party.

"You...!" he began, artfully and adeptly maneuvering his scythe before slamming its solid end to the ground causing it to shake slightly, small cracks quickly spreading from the impact point. On cue, two pulsating orbs flared into existence like ethereal wisps at either side of him, their shifting, flowing consistency emanating a mysterious energy despite the fact a strange monochromatic essence was tainting them both. They were free souls, those not longer bound by a mortal body, however not complete enough to be able to manifest themselves as spirits. "You knew I was there--you knew it was here! Tainted Souls, rise from your decay!" at this point, seething darkness completely enveloped the souls, clashing into them as they each formed a spherical, seeping mass of tangible shadows from which two red orbs appeared--eyes?--glaring maliciously at the group. Falling from this staring black ball was the rough sketch of a petite, hovering body which flapped open by the end as some sort of mantle, moving slowly and slightly hypnotically at an astral rhythm.

The boy manipulated his scythe again back to its original position, the following words echoing across the vast emptiness of the solitary ruins. "I will end you now."

Chapter I ~ III: Forced Duel

Location: Seneste Ruins - Altar Pathway

Objective: Defeat Grimoire!

Atmosphere: Tense Match: "The tension is almost overwhelming, but the battle goes forward nevertheless." The X Level Decrease Rate for both the Ally and Enemy Party is diminished!

Naina looked at Lissa, worried for her safety. The boy had just tried to kill her right then and there. It seems Lissa had moved just in time, but the entire thing was incredibly jarring. Jet was into a fighting position immediately as the boy had summoned up two strange... creatures... Naina could hardly hold back the tears of fear that welled up inside. What was going on here!?

"L-L-Lissa," she finally choked out, her voice coming in trembles, "A-Are you okay? Naina backed up a little, behind Jet, hoping that everything would turn out okay. Everything had happened so fast, she had no idea how to react.

Naina managed another look at the apparent enemies. No doubt this would be the hardest thing they have faced yet, but there was something about the boy... About the way he reacted. Naina wondered if, perhaps, the boy was scared as well...

Jizara bristled immediately at the sudden strike towards Lissa, moving as if to help the girl-- but the spirit invoker moved away just in time, leaving her assailant backing away from the group. When he spoke, his voice had an edge to it... was it anger? Fear? Something more? The kitsune's ears pricked forward to catch the boy's words;

"You knew I was there--you knew it was here!"

Jizara wasn't sure what the boy was talking about, but it was clear a fight was about to begin. Narrowing her dark blue eyes to return the boy's glare, Jizara took a position somewhat near Naina, as if covering the other flank; not wanting to get too close to the front lines, she stood merely in a position to protect and heal as the circumstances warranted.

"Lissa!" Alice had cried out upon seeing her trusted companion being attacked. Though she seemed to have been able to dodge it, nonetheless, Alice took up a defensive stance between the boy and her friend.

For a second, he had almost sounded scared. What if Jet and Jizara were using them to attack the boy and steal whatever he was protecting? Perhaps she should try to understand him first, before rushing into a battle governed by the evildoers. "What are you talking about? What's 'it'?" she asked him carefully.

She had looked just in time. The figure had blurred into the corner of her eye as she dove just out of the reach of his vicious weapon of unknown properties, "What the--" she cried out, hitting the floor before the final word could escape her lips. Panicking slightly, Lissa looked behind her to see her would-be assailant. A young boy wielding what seemed to be a viciously-hooked scythe of some sort. Too close... She looked again, seeing her companions showing varying level of concern for her as the boy retreated. Smiling hesitantly at them, gaze lingering on Alice, she stated, "I'm fine... Fine," though she was primarily reassuring herself, brushing herself off and getting back to her feet.

The boy seemed wary of them, as though he were the prey and the group, the predators. "We mean you no harm, I promise. Don't attack, and we won't need to defend ourselves." Snaring staff in hand, Lissa raised both of her hands in a gesture that she hoped the boy would recognize. She heard Alice ask a question from the other side of Jet, and hoped that he would recognize their genuine lack of knowledge towards whatever it was he was talking about.

{Lissa waits...}

Taking a deep breath, then letting it out, Lissa readied herself. The menacing wisps seemed to be staring into her very soul... Tainted Souls, had the boy called them? I wonder... can I communicate with them if I get a little closer...? she thought to herself, recalling memories of her training. Memories that had been buried within the depths of her mind, just waiting to be recalled.... she had been raised for this. She blinked deeply, preparing to step towards the boy. He had still not answered anyone. "We don't want to hurt you..." she said, looking to her companions, as though asking for some backup to make her seem more convincing.

She took steps to stay outside of the direct line of fire, standing against a pillar that seemed more decayed than anything else. Lissa didn't want the boy to pounce at her again. One close encounter with that wicked scythe of his was enough for her liking.

"Please, we mean you no harm, I'm sure we can just lay down our weapons, and talk this out." Jet said, but he was partially unconvinced that they would be able to, especially the company the boy seemed to keep.

Jizara waits.]

Jizara moved forward, staying behind Jet; she was somewhat slower than the human and hoped that he would at least stay in her spell range. She hoped the same for Alice, yes, but... She doesn't want my help. I can't count on her staying close enough to me, or even accepting my help if she does, the kitsune thought, pale gold ears twitching in a mix of annoyance and similar emotions. And maybe a little hurt. Why doesn't she...? Her thoughts trailed off as she keyed into the voices of her companions. Jizara didn't particularly like the look of the boy with the scythe, and doubted she could keep up healing; though unaware of Naina's abilities, the girl appeared as if she wasn't going to move anytime soon. She added her own voice to the mix. "Believe us, we've no wish to harm you. We didn't even know you were here." The kitsune doubted it would work, but it was worth a shot...

~ Enemy Phase I ~

"You're LYING!" the scythe-wielding boy spat back in collective response. The intricate weapon flicked slightly as he slightly changed its holding position, curved black and white blade threateningly posed so it was directed at them--a clear sign of hostility. "It's that you seek, and I will stop you with all I have." His eyes pierced with a hidden fuel, a definite determination that spoke of fighting to the very end. And that is just what he planned to do, despite the fact he was outnumbered. And their souls... he idly thought, but it trailed off. He tapped with solid end of the scythe the ground again, causing the Tainted Souls to move, hover eerily towards them in one movement. One simply remained in place, in front of both the Spirit Invoker and the Magic Knight, but Alice wasn't so lucky. Ethereally black, thin appendages stretched forward, raking at the girl superficially several times before retracting.

The Soul Harvester did not move. His stance minutely broke, his body turning around in the air as his eyes cast a short glance at the imposing structure behind them, the altar where he had hidden it. Or... thought I had, he bitterly added in his mind, gaze flashing with an instantly fading worry. He reassumed his stance.

Somcra moves to G4 (E4 - F4 - G4).

Somcra attacks Alice! 9 Damage.

Alice takes 5 Damage.
HP: 20/25

Alice uses Out-Of-Tune Twang on Somcra for 10 Int damage. Alice moves to J4 (H4 - I4 - J4).

Alice yelped as the tendrils of darkness scratched at her, strumming her rather annoying sounding banjo and using the awful noise to cover her retreat. What was that thing? Either way, it was a lot tougher than the common forest monsters they had fought earlier. She murmured a prayer under her breath, pressing her wounds to stop hopefully stop the bleeding.

Lissa's eyes widened in shock as the spirits had moved towards them, but moreso that they had attacked her friend. "Leave her alone!" Lissa yelled, instantly dashing to the aid of Alice, in an effort to help her out. "We don't even know what 'that' is! Can't you listen to reason?!" The boy was being irrational; setting hostile souls upon the unsuspecting... lashing out with his curious weapon... She didn't understand why he thought they were threatening. Clearly he had the upper hand... and Naina? She had been rooted to the spot ever since entering. Could it be more fear...? Lissa thought in passing, before releasing a burst of Fire Mana towards the evil creature who had attacked poor Alice.

"Are you alright?" she turned to Alice herself at this point, noticing minor blood pouring out of the wounds. She hoped the boy would learn that they had no idea what it was he was protecting... for she did not want to have to see the worst of these monsters.

Jizara resisted the urge to roll her eyes at Alice's reaction to being attacked- the injury didn't look too fierce, not something Jizara would need to heal right away. Though she was rather annoyed at Jet moving out of range, but that probably couldn't be helped if he was attacking. Jizara could easily stay within range to heal everyone... provided they didn't spread too far. Slipping between Alice and Lissa in order to get closer to the tainted soul, she sent her own attack at it, a burst of flame created by the condensed orb of fire mana she held as her weapon.
