Nightfall, Children of the Elements

Sam stared at the boy some more. She kept a straight face for a few seconds after the bird flew out of his hair, then started laughing. "Why was there a bird in your hair?" she asked, trying to stifle her giggles.

"He really like my hair," Kari said, smiling. The canary circled around the room for a little bit before landing on the boy's head.

"Oh shi-!" Manda stopped herself from swearing. "...I could've helped."

Suzume shrugged. "I was up, with nothing else to do."

Danny strode out through the snow, a spot of black in the snow.

Damn, I'm going to stick out like a sore thumb in this.

"Still... I would like to help." Manda sighed. "I'm gonna change into some warmer clothes, then we can leave if you want."

"Then wake up when I do." Suzume chuckled again.

Sam giggled some more when the bird landed on the boy's head. "That's cute."
She glanced out the window, then turned back to the boy. "I'm Sam."

"Hasta," Kari said, before lightly petting the bird. "And this is Shantak."

Jason was sat with his back against a wall near the entrance of the tower. He was wondering if Isaac was able to still continue their little trip.

Sam reached out and gently stroked Shantak's chest. "Birds are cute," she said quietly. She flashed another smile at the boy and returned to her seat on top of the table. She leaned against the wall, and with one hand, patted the area next to her.
"Sit with me."
She curled her knees up into her jacket, zipping it up all the way and throwing up the hood. She patted the table again. "Sit," she insisted.

The sun reflecting off the snow blinded him for a moment. When Aculeus' vision cleared he walked carefully over to the edge of the tower and put his legs over the edge. His vine hand rooted itself into place so that if there was a sudden gust he wouldn't fall.

The city was beautiful in a savage way from up on the tower. When he was looking he noticed someone walking away from the tower but didn't think it was a threat. After a while of sitting there he decided to try something new. Leaves began to grow from his body and their roots were embedded in his muscles. His body began to sting all over like fire and Aculeus became catatonic.

Kari nodded and sat down next to Sam.

Sam silently stared out the window for a few minutes. She turned to Hasta after a while and poked him in the side. Staring him down, she poked him again.
She held her gaze for nearly five minutes before she suddenly hopped up. "Let's go check on Isaac." she said, not bothering to wait for the boy to catch up.
She quickly ascended the steps to the room that was being used as an infirmary. A few people were checking supplies or cleaning equipment, a few warriors laying in bed with various injuries or sickness. Isaac was laying on a small mattress, a white sheet pulled up to his waist. His head was bandaged, covering his wounded eye, and his shirt was removed, although it didn't matter. Most of his chest and arms was covered in bandages. He was still unconscious. He looked rather pale, his chest barely moving at all as he breathed.
Sam quickly turned away, staring at the ground. "We should go..." she muttered, quickly walking out of the room.

Kari frowned, looking over the injured boy. He shook his head and quickly caught up with Sam. "Hey, everything'll be okay, 'kay?"

Sam stopped walking and turned to him. "Maybe. Maybe he won't. Did you see him yesterday? He got mauled." she said, her voice sounding deathly serious. She said something unintelligible under her breath, and shoved her hands in her pockets.
"I'm just worried about him. He's already saved me from two different kinds of monsters."
She avoided Hasta's eyes, trying to hide her face. She pulled her hood lower and stared at the floor as she walked.

Kari followed her, muttering something under his breath. "Katami, wakachita, yagadanse..."

Sam walked in silence, splitting away from the boy and up to the roof. She managed to kick the door open after a couple tries, and saw Aculeus sitting on the edge of the building, with leaves sprouting out of his back.
She shivered, drawing her jacket tighter around herself, and approached him.
"Aculeus?" she said, waiting for a response. When none came, she pocked him a couple times.
"Aculeus?"
She pulled on his good arm. He hardly budged, except for his arm, which stood in place after Sam tripped and let go of him. She giggled.

After he was separated from Sam, Kari continued to roam around the tower in a trance, repeating the spell over and over. A weak wind shield formed around him, blowing small nearby objects away from him.

I can't believe this is working! Aculeus' body had been healing itself with the energy given to him through the photosynthetic processes of the plant that came from within his body. The process was extremely painful though which wasn't pleasant at all. Sam had come up to talk to him at some point and she had fallen down after touching him.

Two minutes after Sam had touched Aculeus the plants began to recede back into Aculeus' body. His wounds had mostly healed but were only scabbed over and still extremely sore. Breathing hurt and the bruise from the fight with Sparrow hadn't helped at all.

He fell backwards onto the rooftop and was in such a way that he could look Sam right in the eyes. "Hello Sam."

Sam stared at Aculeus for a moment, grabbing his hand again and starting to drag him, through the snow, inside. She shut the door, stared at him some more, then suddenly sat down on his torso. "Hi," she said, without much emotion.

Manda pouted. "I'm gonna go get changed..."

"Alright then," Suzume nodded.

Aculeus couldn't breath very well with the weight of Sam on his sore torso. "Please get off of me Sam," he pleaded to the girl, "I'm still very sore from yesterday."

Sam stared at him. "That's what she said." She held her composure for a moment, then started giggling. She hopped off him and stared down at him. "At least you're better." she stated.
